Digitization: History, Disadvantages And Benefits

26 Jul 2022 Blog

Digitization means the conversion from analog to digital. For example, when an old photo that was taken with an analog camera is photographed with a smartphone or scanned, it is digitized. It’s hard to imagine today’s world without digitization. Nowadays, networking is even more important than ever before. Yet digitization did not start in the 21st century but began much earlier. In addition to the many advantages that a digitized world brings, there are also a few disadvantages that need to be considered.

When did digitization begin?

The history of digitization actually begins as early as the 1930s and 1940s. The binary system, consisting of ones and zeros, was the basis for the first computer. It was 1937 when the revolution began. “Z1” was the name of one of the first computers based on the binary system, developed by Konrad Zuse. Compared to Zuse’s “Z1”, the American ENIAC which was developed in 1944 really looked like a computer. However, the inner workings of the binary calculating machines still consisted of tubes and relays. They were also gigantic in size; the ENIAC, for example, measured 10 by 17 meters which is not very handy. The first “computer” to use transistors instead of tubes was the TRADIC, developed in the USA. It was also much smaller and had only the size of about three refrigerators. But from the 1950s, the computer revolution was unstoppable and the technology advanced unceasingly. The speed of the devices increased steadily and so did the amount of data they could process. Additionally, they became smaller. The development of digitalization took an enormous leap in the 1980s with the first home computers. First and foremost, it was the Commodore that made a name for itself, but Atari and Amiga also followed suit, revolutionizing the world because finally almost everyone could dive into the digital world in their living room at home.

Disadvantages of digitalization

One of the central themes certainly is data security and the prevention of cyberattacks. The security of one’s own data and the risk of cyberattacks or data loss are often listed as disadvantages of digitization. It is therefore important to protect valuable company data from deliberate attacks on the one hand and from unintentional loss on the other. In addition to securing the systems externally, this also includes an appropriate authorization system for internal systems for the company’s own employees and a backup strategy to protect against unintentional data loss. Furthermore, the monopoly-like position of tech companies like Google also creates a certain dependency. This means that all users of these services must also play by their rules. Google determines, for example, who can be found via its search engine. In individual cases, this can create a real digitization disadvantage, since the decisions of these corporations are not completely transparent. Another disadvantage is data protection which is not always perfectly working. Especially for larger transactions, such as booking vacations or online casinos, a customer’s personal and account data should be protected. The fear of data misuse is also a major reason why some people fear using online casinos. Those who are looking for a reputable online casino that puts player protection first and also provides a large game selection, attractive conditions, and bonus offers can use free comparison portals for help. These offer an overview of the best-tested online casinos so that everyone can quickly and easily find the best online operator where you can enjoy online slots for real money.

Advantages of digitization

Of course, digitization has a number of advantages that justify the rapid progress of the process and its application in all areas of life. Digitization makes many things easier. This is enabled by digital tools for increasing productivity and optimizing in-house processes. The topic of knowledge transfer is also picking up speed with digitization. It has never been easier to capture valuable information for everyone involved – regardless whether they are sitting in the office, school, university or home office. Furthermore, digitization created a completely new consumer behavior in the first place. Online shopping and payment, booking vacations, playing video games online and so much more would be inconceivable without digitization. The many other reasons, such as better educational opportunities and simplified living through smart homes and so on, also show that digitization has brought the world forward enormously despite its disadvantages.

Is The Metaverse The future Of Fashion And Luxury Retail?

18 Jul 2022 Blog

The Metaverse is creating a new world through an immersive virtual reality – one in which we can live, work, play, and shop.

Artificial intelligence and augmented reality, the two important components of the Metaverse could open up opportunities for new business models that leverage virtual fashion.

Technology that allows for 360-degree views has already been used to present designer collections through online showrooms, and avatars of models have walked 3-D virtual runways.

At a minimum, fashion’s foray into the Metaverse suggests promising new innovative ways for consumer engagement.

While no one can predict exactly how this rapidly growing digital universe will shape up, the opportunities it presents are exciting—for luxury brands, retailers, and indeed for consumers themselves.

Metaverse Fashion Council and ONLYwebinars.com are hosting a webinar on 18 July at noon ET to discuss how haute couture and luxury retail brands are pivoting to the Metaverse.

According to Sharad Agarwal, Chief Metaverse Officer of Cyber Gear, “Fashion is a $2.5T industry. On a global basis, we consume more than 100 billion items of clothing. We see that several iconic fashion brands like Gucci, Louis Vuitton, Balenciaga, Burberry, Dolce & Gabbana, DIOR, Givenchy, and Tommy Hilfiger are all migrating to a ‘digital first’ approach to marketing and manufacturing. This will lead to a sustainability revolution which is good for the planet.”

The webinar has a constellation of stars drawn from the fashion industry.

Businesses That Thrived During Covid, And Why

6 Jul 2022 Blog

There is no doubt that for the majority of people and businesses, the pandemic was not a financially successful period. The number of lost working hours in 2020 alone amounted to the same as 255 million full-time jobs.

As far as business closures were concerned, many famous names disappeared from the high streets in the UK and the shopping malls of the US. There were 200,000 more closures than forecast in the states in 2020.

Yet, for all the woe and misery sustained in many sectors during this time, many businesses found a way to push on through. And of these businesses, quite a few managed to actually thrive, and see what may be looked back on as a fruitful period.

Which businesses increased their customer base and thrived during Covid?

It won’t come as a surprise that a number of the triumphs are those businesses that primarily use the internet for their sales. However, not all the successful industries relied solely on ecommerce, and a few found increased sales and profits regardless.

Here are some of the businesses that thrived from the start of the pandemic until the end of 2021.

Food & grocery services delivered

Most traditional land-based retailers saw drops in sales and were on occasion forced to close. Grocers and supermarkets saw increased sales as panic buying arrived along with the pandemic.

It wasn’t only panic purchases of dried goods and toilet rolls that occurred though. As restaurants closed, food delivery services saw a swell in their customer base. Uber Eats saw a 30% surge in customers during the first quarter of 2020 as people became wary about going outside their homes, or were on lockdown.

Online casinos hit the jackpot

Thousands of people were suddenly out of work in Las Vegas as the casino industry ground to a halt. The online sector, therefore, took over swiftly and grew beyond all forecasts and predictions.

As traditional gaming establishments closed, players headed online. It wasn’t only seasoned players that pivoted though. Individuals seeking new entertainment looked for casinos online to play card games and slots and to try and win some money. For many, using online casinos was a means to continue their hobby, for others it was to find some entertainment and relieve the monotony of the lockdown.

Guitar manufacturers played a pretty tune

While it may not have seemed the most essential purchase during a global pandemic, the guitar manufacturing industry saw a boom period.

Whether it was simply to take up a new hobby or to cross something off the bucket list, guitar sales surged. Fender and Gibson saw record sales, and customers were warned of delayed delivery times.

Real estate was a seller’s market during Covid

Proof that not everything that sold well during the pandemic was online, the housing market acted unpredictably in the face of a recession.

Understanding when to sell a home is vital to getting close to the asking price and creating a quick sale. The pandemic may not have seemed like the best time to offload a property, but records have shown that 2020-2022 was an excellent selling period for real estate.

From almost the beginning of 2020 until September 2021, house prices in the US continued to rise as the demand increased. Low-interest rates were one of the causes, as was the increase in remote workers needing adequate space.

The garden industry grew

The green industry in particular did well during the pandemic, especially in 2020. Out of 4,200 participants in one study, 1 in 3 said they started gardening because they were home a lot more often.

However, many did so to make themselves more sustainable due to fears about produce supplies. 13% of respondents feared food shortages and will continue to garden, reported Science Daily.

Online retailers, of course

It’s no secret that online retailers thrived during the pandemic, but it would be remiss not to acknowledge them briefly. Clearly, Amazon was the big winner, but the pandemic has seen a digital transformation in retail that will continue to expand.

Businesses that use local SEO will have gained neighborhood custom

Travel restrictions meant that many people started to rely more on their local businesses. In the long term, it could be hoped that this practice will continue, and the internet can help.

Any business that understood the need for local search engine optimization is likely to have attracted new customers during the pandemic. The pandemic has shown that businesses need to adapt and be ready for all eventualities, however unlikely they may be.

Streaming services entertained the masses

The obvious reason for the growth in subscribers to streaming services would be the lockdowns and the shuttering of non-essential services. As everyone stayed at home more, and cinemas closed, entertainment was sought out online.

Platforms such as Netflix offered free trials which often led to paid subscriptions for the company. Yet, the success seen in the pandemic may not continue now restrictions are lifted.

Netflix lost 200,000 customers at the start of 2022 and was expected to lose a further 2 million in the next quarter. It seems that the surge in subscribers during Covid wasn’t sustainable, and now cinemas and other entertainment venues are open, the need has subsided.

Although Netflix is blaming password sharing, it could simply be that the content isn’t causing the demand for people to pay monthly fees as much as it was.

Businesses that used vertical integration were ready

As businesses were not expecting the impact of the pandemic, many were simply in no state to survive. Many small businesses have limited liquid assets and can struggle with cash flow. It wouldn’t have taken long for the pandemic to have caused them real problems.

The ones that survived and did well during those years were the businesses that had already streamlined and looked to make themselves more efficient.

Vertical integration means having control and ownership over all business aspects including shipping, distribution, suppliers, and retail operations. Those that were capable of retailing online also may have thrived despite the lockdowns.

Summary

It is clear that some sectors such as ecommerce will continue to thrive despite travel restrictions and lockdowns being a thing of the past. Whether all these businesses will continue to grow is debatable.

Online casinos are still hugely popular, but the streaming service industry is becoming saturated. Food delivery services are convenient, but they can’t match the social nature of visiting a restaurant. And, how many guitars brought during the pandemic are already for sale on eBay?

Still, the pandemic has shown the need to be ready for the unexpected. Streamlining, improved efficiency, and the use of the internet, are essential if businesses are to thrive when the next recession or pandemic hits.

Dubai Residents Will Live, Work, Play, And Socialise In Metaverse In The Near Future

4 Jul 2022 Blog

Dubai residents will soon live, work, play and socialise in Metaverse in addition to visiting government departments and completing transactions too, says Sharad Agarwal, Chief Metaverse Officer of Cyber Gear.

While speaking at the MetaDecrypt Web 3.0 Summit on Sunday, Agarwal said Dubai has always been at the forefront of embracing new technologies.

“We have started getting a lot of inquiries from government departments and ministries to make them Metaverse-enabled. It is just a matter of time before Dubai becomes the crypto and Metaverse hub of the world – not only the region. Initial steps have already been taken, so it is a matter of time before there will be a mandate for all government departments to start the onboarding process,” Agarwal said on the sidelines of the Summit, which is organized by Khaleej Times, the UAE’s first English newspaper.

“There is hard work involved, so you need to decide what services you want to offer and business model and then onboard community just like it exists in the physical world on to Metaverse. So it is a process which takes time,” Agarwal said on the sidelines of the Summit.

Dubai Metaverse Strategy was recently launched to on work on key pillars and objectives with regard Metaverse. The emirate expects Metaverse to contribute $4 billion (Dh14.7 billion) to its economy by 2030.

Recently, Dubai’s Virtual Assets Regulatory Authority (VARA) established its headquarter in Metaverse, becoming the first regulator to have a presence in the new digital space.

Agarwal further explained that once Dubai and UAE federal ministries introduce Metaverse, residents will be able to visit their offices in Metaverse and do transactions.

Citing an example, he said: “Dubai has a huge real estate market. In the future, people will be able to fly like superman to a community, look at the villas and view the villas and also configure the interior decoration to their liking. Once they’re satisfied, they can pay digitally. It is possible today as some developed countries have taken the lead in this field,” added Agarwal.

In addition, he said it is a matter of time before the UAE residents will be able to pay their bills through Metaverse as well.

Metaverse is for every industry

A number of local, regional, and international experts shed light on NFTs, Metaverse and blockchain and also presented in-depth analysis and use cases during the two-day summit.

Jonscott Turco, founder of HumINx and CEO of Deep Learning Labs; Emmanuel Quezada, CEO at U-Topia; Thomas Reemer, founding partner of Space Hero; Teddy Pahagbia, founder and CEO of Druid and other senior industry executives spoke on a diverse range of topics at the Summit.

Estimates show that the Metaverse economy could be between $8 trillion to $13 trillion and five billion people will be in the Metaverse by 2030.

“Metaverse is for every industry on the planet. Metaverse is offering an opportunity to brands to reinvent themselves and also giving a new lease of life to the dying industry. In addition, we see that concerts are also happening in Metaverse,” Agarwal said during the MetaDecrypt Web 3.0 Summit held at the Museum of the Future.

Agarwal added that Metaverse is growing at the speed of thought and there will be a seismic shift in the way companies do business.

“I can feel the tremors already because I am an early starter. Metaverse is not a magic bullet that you establish a presence and you have an ROI (Return on Investment). You need to build Metaverse first and then build a community around it. Firms have to look at ROE – Return on Engagement. Once you achieve that then you’re on track to achieve ROI,” added the Chief Metaverse Officer of Cyber Gear.

He added that the devices that support Metaverse are expensive but expect their prices to drop as more companies enter this sector.

Agarwal added that 26 years back he found it very hard to convince companies to have their websites and now even individuals have their own websites. Similarly, Metaverse will also see exponential growth in the coming years.

As appeared in Khaleej Times.

What Is The Meta-Quest Pro – Complete Guide

1 Jul 2022 Blog, Social Media

The Meta-Quest Pro Headset Is Here

The Metaverse has been on the lips of tech experts and enthusiasts around the world for quite some time now. Many people still don’t know exactly what it is or how it works, and that is probably because the online universe is still relatively in its infancy stages.

There is no doubt in the minds of many analysts in the digital tech world that once more becomes known and more people try out the Metaverse, that it will be a monumental success in the world of online social media. This is especially compounded by the cool Metaverse-aligned gear that many tech companies are starting to work on, in order to prepare for the boom of Zuckerberg’s latest foray. Let’s talk about the Meta-Quest Pro below.

Meta-Quest Pro Headset – What Can It Do?

So, by now, most people know that the Metaverse is a virtual reality online space where you can practically spend your life if you wanted to.

You can travel to different locations, go for lunch with your friends, play online video games or enjoy a bit of gambling at sites like ZAR Casino, and much more in a virtual world. Of course, to do all of these things you’ll need some sort of virtual reality headset.

Most of the headsets out right now are pretty standard and don’t offer much in terms of interesting and exciting tech that can make the virtual reality experience unique or special. But that’s where the specialized and Metaverse-focused Quest Pro Headset comes in.

The Meta-Quest Pro headset is bulky and front-heavy, but that doesn’t detract from its futuristic and interesting design. It looks kind of like a bike visor from the future, and it is sure to attract many who want to take the next step in terms of gadget design.

The headset, despite being on the larger side, is one of the most comfortable headsets on the market, meaning that you can truly use it anywhere you want. It feels light and it rests easily on the head. The strap isn’t invasive at all and it has multiple adjustable sizes for anyone who wants to jump online.

But What About The Tech?

The Meta-Quest Pro is a major step forward when compared to other headsets that have been used for the same virtual reality reasons. Aside from the improved ergonomics, the headset has a much-upgraded processor which makes for better graphics and much better processing speed when walking through the online world.

The headset also has new and improved eye-tracking features along with a higher resolution that blurs the line between standard virtual reality and typical augmented reality.

The Quest Pro feels like it is taking the leap into the next generation of VR headsets, and this is exactly the type of tech that promises to make the Metaverse a success in the future.

This is just the beginning of what the Metaverse and it’s aligning tech have to offer the world.
